GBTU has lined-up Matthew B. Alschuler to come talk about his groups efforts to "Stop the Mega Dairy" in Jo Daviess county. He will talk about the progress on their current court case, and what the permanent injunction would mean.
Matthew B. Alschuler - of the H.O.M.E.S. organization that is opposing the building of a 15,000 head industrial dairy facility in Jo Davies County, Illinois - will explain why his group feels this project will endanger the health of both residents and water quality in the area. We know that Trout Unlimited has spent a lot of time and money improving the Apple River and the Clear Creek, and that our members are concerned that this facility could easily wipe out all of the hard work with one minor spill.
H.O.M.E.S. has obtained a preliminary injunction stopping this facility, and will be back in court on November 23rd to get a permanent injunction. Up until now H.O.M.E.S. has spent around $150,000 in community donations. H.O.M.E.S. is asking groups, such as Trout Unlimited, that have a direct connection with this area, to help meet the expected $100,000 in additional legal fees and expert witness expenses that this 3 week trial will cost. By stopping this facility, it will send a strong message to other similar investors, and help us preserve the unique environment of this Driftless Area in Illinois.
